Julia Russell (Founder and Director)
“Energy, Passion, Fun, Daring, Curiosity and Focus on being relevant, practical and empowering”; Julia believes that’s what great facilitation is all about.
Julia Russell has been based in Singapore since 1994 and has spent the last 6 years building up a refreshingly different training and facilitation company, TurQuoise Communications.
We don’t use PowerPoint, we don’t use tables, we don’t have workbooks with all the answers in. What we do use is a lot of questions to understand the impact of your personality on how you work, how you communicate, how you present ideas and get things done. We then share different perspectives to build trust and respect, which are fundamental to success.
What are the qualifications needed to deliver great results? Lots of human observations through countless workshops delivered for Multi-National organizations, for Senior Leaders through to Graduate Hires, facilitated across Asia.
Julia has over 25 years of leadership, sales and customer service experience at Global Organisations such as Pearson, Thomson Reuters, Kaplan & Xerox; complementing her BA (Hons) in Business Studies from the University of Nottingham. Rico Jon Ngim
Passionate About Art Education
Rico has a special interest in teaching art to children and adults with special needs, senior citizens, and ex-offenders. For children and adults with special needs who have difficulties with verbal communication, art activities provide an excellent alternative channel for self-expression and the practice of sensory motor skills, including hand-eye coordination and sensory stimulation. Group art
activities provide social interaction and mental stimulation for senior citizens. Ex-offenders can practice art to help them foster coping skills and increase their emotional well-being.
In his general art classes, Rico encourages families, couples, and friends to participate in art activities together to enhance bonding and communication. As for working adults, art activities can help to reduce stress and improve tranquility. Apart from having fun with art activities, Rico believes that the practice of art also helps in the building of children’s character, including patience, determination, and creativity.
Being a very hands-on technical person, Rico likes to keep up with technology and has designed several art courses that use modern-technology tools such as 3D Pen and consumer 3D Printer.
Education and Professional Experiences
Rico received his Bachelor of Fine Arts (Major: Sculpture) from RMIT University and his Diploma in Visual Fine Arts (Major: Sculpture) from LaSalle-SIA College of the Arts. Rico is experienced in creating, building and installing outdoor sculptures commissioned by clients. He uses a diverse range of materials to create his sculptures, including wood, ceramic, fiber-glass, poly-marble, copper, stainless steel, and bronze. Passionate about art education, Rico has been teaching sculpture in schools, government and private organizations for more than a decade.
Becoming an Artist
Rico wanted to be an artist since he was 7 years old; he would use any materials that he could get hold of to sculpt and carve figures from his imagination. As an adult, he went to work in the construction industry, chemical industry and ship building industry in order to learn essential technical skills for building sculptures. That was the time he learnt about mixing chemical, building structure, welding, industrial safety, etc. He resigned from his job as a project manager in a shipyard to become a full-time artist in 1994.
Through a friend’s recommendation, Rico had an opportunity to meet the renowned sculptor and artist, the late Brother Joseph McNally (Founder of LASALLE College of the Arts). He was impressed by the egg carving sculptures created by Rico and recruited him as his sculpture assistant. During those years with Brother Joseph, Rico acquired the essential skills and techniques to create and install huge outdoor sculptures. Encouraged by his mentor, Rico studied at LaSalle-SIA College of the Arts and upon graduating, set up his own company, Sculptors Workshop. Besides fabricating for Brother Joseph, Rico provided various services to other artists as well, such as fabrication, installation, repair, etc.
