
iMap Samba Percussion I Programme

Samba Percussion, also known as carnival drumming, first originated from Brazil and is commonly used in the world renowned Carnival held in Rio de Janeiro. Making use of rhythmic beats, it taps on the vibrancy of modern teenagers, allowing both an exhilarating, enjoyable yet educational approach to learning music. Samba has also proven benefits in teamwork, communication and musical skills, the important thing to remember is that it is fun – ‘Learning doesn’t have to be hard work’.
At the end of this Programme, the participants will acquire the following skills:
- Listen. Through live demonstration, children will learn how to differentiate tones produced in drumming and recognize various rhythmic patterns through consistent exposure and practice.
- Action. Using interactive activities, children will learn a series of basic percussion drum strokes and how to recreate various rhythm using these strokes.
- Play. Through a series of coordination and cooperation with others, children will learn about the essence of Brazilian drumming and techniques required to perform using Brazilian drums.
- Sing. Lessons will also incorporate a series of self-learning task, where children will be encouraged to apply concepts learnt to recreate rhythmic patterns of their own, both singing it out and producing it on drums.
