Hans Christian Andersen
Explore the world of imagination, story-telling, creation and exploration with Hans Christian Andersen. We will introduce the children to this famous Danish writer by exploring three of his fairytales.
Through The Emperor’s New Clothes, the children will learn about reflection, reflective materials, properties and uses of the mirror. Children will get to explore the costumes of the world. They will have dress-up fun through making paper-dolls, necklaces, hat and a tie.
In Thumbelina, the children will learn about properties that make objects float or sink. They will make their own boat for Thumbelina, have a boat race and learn the concept of sails and the wind.
The Nightingale will inspire the children to learn more about birds and their flight. The children will make their own bird wings and learn how machines can help us today.
In each story, the children will get to verbalise their opinions and dramatise the story. Predicting of events and creation of solutions are the main thread in sharing Hans Christian Andersen with the children.
Let the children share Hans Christian Andersen’s vision of the world as a place for exploration and wonder!
